Ghana has abundant deposits of industrial minerals vital for economic development. Limestone, silica sand, salt clay, kaolin, chalk/lime, granite, dolomite etc. provide essential raw materials and chemical feedstock for manufacturing, construction and agriculture. These minerals are available in commercial quantities that should be processed to feed into the industrialization process.
Large deposits of mining tailings, both buried and surface stored are available in the mining areas. These materials should be excavated and used as aggregates, base or sub-base material in the construction of houses and roads in every part of the country. Their use shall constitute a savings of up to 20 percent in the construction boom that the state should credit to building, road contractors and real estate developers.
Some of these minerals, for example salt and limestone can be further processed for use in the chemical and industrial processes
