TILE AND DECORATIVE STONE INDUSTRY
Throughout the ages, the world’s eminent civilizations have used tiles and natural stone architecture to build their cities. Natural stone offers many attractive and environmentally friendly attributes, including an enduring life-span, durability, ease of care, maintenance and recyclability.
Ghana has rich deposits of clay and rocks suitable for manufacturing tiles for the local housing and construction industry. Generally investments in the building materials sector increase the availability of affordable building materials critical to developing a thriving construction sector.
A Tile and Natural Stone Commission should be established to provide the needed research and regulatory framework for the development of the industry. The industry should also benefit from world class design and manufacturing process, technical training schools, research institutions and distribution and sale systems. The Commission should oversee the development of Ghana’s clay, granite, marble and other natural stone products potential.
